FAQs
We get a lot of questions about our knives, features, and the ordering process. Many of the most common are found on this page. Please review these for an answer to your question and if you cannot find it please do not hesitate to contact us.
ORDERING
Beginning March 1, 2023, all order acknowledgments will come via email. Please allow 2 to 3 business days for your order to be processed and for the acknowledgment to be sent.
We fulfill orders on a first-come, first-served basis whether you’re an individual buyer or a dealer. It should be noted that most of our dealers submit orders consistently every year, so they will receive knives on a regular basis.
Unfortunately, we do not have knives available in stock. Demand is generally so great for all models that we normally have many years of pre-orders.
Currently, we are scheduling knife deliveries for the year 2030.
The Randall Made knife order limit is one knife every three months per household. The limit on extra features that may be ordered on a knife has been set to five chargeable features.
Unfortunately, due to the extended pre-orders which now exceeds six years, Randall Made™ Knives has found it necessary to limit individual orders to one knife, every three months, per household. Also, beginning November 1, 2007, the extra feature limit is five chargeable features. Your cooperation with the limits is greatly appreciated. If we may be of assistance with the specifications, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Model number, size, and feature changes are very limited. A “one-time” change order request must be submitted in writing. The cut-off date for a change request is one year prior to the ORIGINAL scheduled ship date. Once an order is in production, no changes are accepted. Sorry, no exceptions. A change order fee applies to each knife, plus the cost of the model/feature change if your request is approved.
A $50.00 deposit paid for a single knife order will guarantee you the current price upon delivery. Standard sheaths are included in the price guarantee. ***Special order sheaths, such as black, waxed, left-handed, etc., are not included in the price guarantee.*** Deposits are not transferable and non-refundable.
USPS – U.S. Priority Mail to a post office box number or street address. (RMK’s Standard Shipping Method)
UPS – United Parcel Service to a physical street address. (By special request in writing and an additional charge)
RMK requests your email address for each order to forward tracking information the day we ship your knife.
We make every effort to keep our prices reasonable for hand-crafted work, and in comparison to others supplying hand-made knives, we’re quite low. But, certainly, you can pay much less for a knife. That’s why for years, we have reminded customers of this quote from John Ruskin: “Quality. There is hardly anything in the world that some men cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man’s lawful prey.”
Our philosophy has always been to make the best knives we can make, rather than the most knives we can make. We occasionally do add people to our family of craftsmen, but frankly, it is difficult to find experienced individuals who are willing to devote the care to their work that we expect. We simply won’t do anything to sacrifice the quality of our knives, and we’re convinced that this commitment is what makes our knives so popular. We regret the delay, and we appreciate your understanding.

Anything that is truly hand-made is unique. There is simply no way to hand-make exact duplicates. That means one Model 1 might be slightly longer or shorter than another Model 1. Plus, over the years we have varied particular Models somewhat to improve them.
Sorry, but no, the specialized nature of our handcrafting process doesn’t make kits feasible and the large number of current pre-orders prohibit special forgings.
Knives
Occasionally we receive requests for sharper, longer, shorter, thicker, or thinner blades and/or handles.

Features
Thuya Burl is native to Northwestern Africa. It is a very dense material. It is a beautiful burl wood with lots of natural figure.
Randall offers many extra features that are illustrated in the catalog and shown on the website. There are literally thousands of possible configurations. Please take a moment to request the printed catalog and carefully review the options before ordering.
Once an order is placed, model and feature changes are limited. The deadline for any change request is at least one year prior to your scheduled ship date. The written request will be considered and not always approved. There is a change order fee, plus the cost of the model/feature change.
Beginning November 1, 2007, there is an extra feature limit: only five chargeable features on each knife order.
Ivorite is a dense phenolic resin material, white in color, and linen-based. Field-tested to be very durable. Randall Made Knives does not offer the Ivorite on full-tang knives or the Model 12-11″ Smithsonian Bowie. Ivorite handle material is shown on page 26 of the Randall Made catalog.
The #25 handle is standard on the Model #25 and available on Models #26 (chargeable), #27, #12-9″ (chargeable) and #12-9″(#14 grind) (chargeable).
The handle is available in nickel silver or brass, please specify when ordering.
This is a difficult handle to construct and due to time constraints we have to limit the availability.
This is one of the most common questions we get. We feel that high carbon tool steel holds a better edge by about 10 percent and it’s much easier to hone. Stainless, however, is more resistant to corrosion and staining, so it’s generally the better choice for use in humid or saltwater conditions. Consider how frequently you’ll use and hone your knife–and where you’ll use it–then decide which material is best for you.
Refinishes & Repairs
Please send us your Randall Made knife (limit of two at a time) in a box with points/knife completely protected and complete written instructions in the box for the work to be done. Please include all your contact information with the instructions including your email address. There is a limit of five (5) total repairs per 12 months, per household. Please send with insurance and tracking and use the mailing/shipping service convenient for you. We’ll then extend an emailed quote with payment information. Approval of quote and payment must be made prior to work starting. Repairs typically take three to five weeks. It is not the policy of Randall Made to work on knives that have been altered, including the old kit blades; these knives are not covered under the Certification and Guarantee. Address for shipment via US Postal Service, shipment via UPS or other carriers: 4857 So. Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando, FL 32839. Note effective September 11, 2001, Randall Made is not offering re-handle jobs, nor do we repair sheaths. Spare time and space is devoted to filling military knife orders for our active military customers.
Please note regarding Insurance: The quote for repairs/refinishing will include insurance on the knife(ves). The insured value is based on “current year” prices. If you would like a higher insurance amount quoted, please state the amount in your request for a quotation letter when sending us the knife.
Sheaths
Model C Sheath —– How To Thread Nylon Cord?
Two — 3 foot cords
One — 2 foot cord
Take one 3 foot cord
With sheath facing you, thread one cord into front top holes (front-to-back) all the way through the belt loop back-side holes and pull through evenly. This cord can be tied to web belt.
Take one 2 foot cord
Note: back two rows of holes on leather belt loop are not used.
Knot one end and thread the other end of cord through bottom right hole on front of sheath, front-to-back until the knot holds its place in bottom right hole. (Do not thread cord through the back leather loop.) Pull cord back-to-front through right middle hole and across to continue to thread the cord into the left middle hole, front-to-back, and then through the bottom left hole, back-to-front, toward front of sheath. Knot the second end. Pull cord to tighten so that the knotted ends are against the front of the sheath. When the knife is sheathed, pull this cord to “cinch” handle tight to sheath.
Take one 3 foot cord
Bottom of sheath has a tab with two holes. Thread the cord front-to-back and pull through evenly for leg tie-down.
A standard sheath is supplied with all models with one knife exception being the Model #9 Pro-Thrower, that sheath is extra. The price of the standard sheath is included in the base price of the knife. If you order a special sheath spec, such as a black sheath, a waxed sheath, or a left-hand sheath, there is an additional charge and the special “sheath” spec is subject to future price increases.
Randall Made does offer replacement sheaths. The Randall Made knife is required in-house for the replacement sheath. Standard sheaths are in stock, however, a special order sheath, such as black, waxed, left-handed, or a knife with a forward curved hilt will take approximately five weeks for ordering.
International Orders
Effective 2023, Randall Made will utilize United Parcel Service (UPS) for all international shipments. No exceptions.
Upon ordering and prior to shipment Randall Made customers must be aware of their local import and export regulations on fixed-blade knives. Most countries require a special permit or license to import knives, have limits on the blade length, and/or prohibit double-edged knives. Regulations change often. It is the recipients’ (‘customers’) responsibility to obtain proper permitting and/or license, in a timely manner.
Regulations: To conform to the United States Export/Import licensing regulations, a ‘Commercial Invoice’ reflecting current retail prices accompanies all international shipments. All international shipments are insured for the full value of the order. Returned packages will be subject to additional shipping and handling fees. Customers are responsible for all duties and taxes.
Randall Made does not ship to all countries. If you reside in one of those countries, please arrange shipment within the United States. NO Exceptions. Our restricted country list is subject to change.
